About SUHA

The Swedish University Hospital Alliance (SUHA), established in June 2025, brings together Sweden’s seven university hospitals in one unified network with the primary objective of strengthening university hospital care. SUHA also represents the university hospitals unique mandate and lobbies for the right conditions for them to evolve and excel further.

SUHA includes Karolinska University Hospital, Linköping University Hospital, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Skåne University Hospital, University Hospital of Umeå, Uppsala University Hospital, and Örebro University Hospital.

Together, they represent the core of Sweden’s university hospital system, spanning clinical care, research, and education.

Why SUHA

By aligning efforts and strengthening coordination, SUHA increases the strategic influence of Sweden’s seven university hospital in shaping the future of healthcare. SUHA provides a stronger, more unified voice in dialogue with policymakers and other stakeholders on key issues affecting healthcare delivery.

Through stronger collaboration, the alliance also works to enhance access to highly specialised university hospital care and support more equitable and efficient delivery nationwide. This ensures that patients have access to the right care, at the right time, regardless of where they live.

This coordinated approach also strengthens national preparedness, enhancing the ability of university hospitals to respond effectively to unexpected events and crises, and reinforcing their role as critical infrastructure within the healthcare system.

Focus Areas

Today’s healthcare landscape is defined by a dual reality: growing pressures from demographic change and resource constraints, alongside powerful new opportunities created by AI, precision medicine, and rapidly advancing digital technologies.

Against this backdrop, the Swedish University Hospital Alliance (SUHA) brings together its members to address complex healthcare challenges and shape the future of care at both national and international levels.

The key focus areas identified by SUHA reflect the shared priorities of Sweden’s university hospitals and their joint ambition to strengthen healthcare, research, education, and highly specialised care, with the overarching goal of improving patient outcomes and advancing care.
