Focus Areas
Together, SUHA members are addressing complex healthcare challenges and shaping the future of care at both national and international level.
The key focus areas identified by SUHA reflect the shared priorities of Sweden’s university hospitals and their joint ambition to strengthen healthcare, research, education, and highly specialised care.
By coordinating efforts across these areas — through defined thematic priorities and designated lead hospitals — the alliance accelerates innovation, enhances knowledge transfer, and supports the development of advanced and highly specialised treatments.
This collaborative approach translates into tangible value for patients, improving outcomes, enabling faster access to new therapies, and ensuring high-quality, equitable care.
Overview of our Focus Areas
Principles Guiding Joint Initiatives
Shared Value Creation: Initiatives should create significantly greater value when delivered jointly than by individual hospitals. They should complement, rather than duplicate, ongoing efforts.
Core Mission of University Hospitals: Initiatives should align with the unique mandate of university hospitals to deliver highly specialised care while advancing research, education, and innovation, and contribute to the implementation of Sweden’s Life Sciences Strategy.
System Impact and Advancement: Initiatives should contribute to the development of Sweden’s healthcare system and have the potential to generate impact beyond the participating hospitals.
International Relevance: Initiatives should strengthen Sweden’s international position and visibility in healthcare, research, or innovation.
Feasibility and Engagement: Initiatives should be realistic to deliver and of strong interest to multiple university hospitals.
